The 19th Governor
Booth Gardner passed away at the age of 76 this Friday, at his home in Tacoma Washington. To many he was just another politician but to other’s he was a Father, Husband and Statesman. Governor Gardner was born on August 21, 1936 and he would later become a graduate of the University of Washington and Harvard School of Business. Later, he became an heir to the Weyerhaeuser fortune. His parents divorced while he was very young. His mother later went on to marry Norton Clapp, one of the original owners to the Seattle Space Needle. Governor Gardner’s Mother and Sister later died in a plane crash when he was 14 years old. Booth Gardner won a seat in the Washington State Senate, where he served from 1970 to 1973. He later went on to become the very first King County Executive. Booth Gardner became the Governor of Washington from January 16, 1985 – January 13, 1993, shocking many when he did not seek a third term to governor. The 19th Governor was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He later went on to campaign for Washington State’s death with dignity law which got made into a movie. Governor Gardner will be missed.
